Day 13, At Sea

We slept in a bit today, but we were still up by 9:00 despite losing an hour sleep last night.  We had our usual breakfast in the Neptune Lounge and then looked at all of the pictures we took over the last couple of days.  We returned to the room and I spent the rest of the morning writing up the blog for yesterday.

It was soon time for lunch and we headed up to the Lido.  After lunch I finished the blog and Val went to trivia.  There was a lecture today on the Mediterranean Sea that we wanted to attend so I went early and got seats and Val joined me after her trivia.  After the lecture, the port guide was giving a talk on the upcoming ports of Livorno and Civitavecchia (Rome) in Italy so we stayed for that which was also very informative.  Italy is a week off, but since we don’t have many sea days coming up, they are giving the port talks early to get them all in.

After the talk we went back to our room for a little reading and relaxing.  Tonight is another formal night and we just didn’t feel like getting dressed up again so we decided to eat at the Lido tonight.  Before we ate, we did go to trivia and our team almost won, but ended up losing a tiebreaker and finishing second.

After trivia we headed straight to the Lido as it closes at 8:00.  When we got to the Lido we could see the lights of a large city out the window which turned out to be Tangier, Morocco.  We were passing through the Straits of Gibraltar and were passing fairly close to Morocco as the straits are fairly narrow and there is a lot of ship traffic so the sea lanes are managed pretty strictly.  We went to the other side and saw the vague outline of Spain, but we were much closer to Morocco than Spain.

We had a pretty good dinner, but I have to admit, I prefer being served as opposed to going through a buffet line.  After dinner we of course headed for the casino where I had another good night; I actually came out ahead.  We didn’t stay too long in the casino as we have to get up early tomorrow.  We will be in Malaga, Spain and have a ship’s tour that leaves at 8:00 so it’s early to bed for us.

We did hear some good news today; the lady who had to be evacuated in Bermuda is back on the ship.  It turns out she had broken her wrist and needed surgery to repair it which led to the evacuation.  Her wrist is in a cast, but she rejoined the ship in Lisbon and is back with us, very good news!
