Amazon & Carnival Explorer Cruise - Day 14: At Sea

Sunday, February 17

We were quite tired after our four ports and four excursions in four days so we slept in and didn’t get out and about until after 10:00.  When our room stewards came to clean our room, we went to the Neptune Lounge and looked at some of our pictures.  By the time we finished, it was time for lunch and we were off to the Lido.

Today was the final round and finals of the slot tournament so after lunch we headed off to that.  As expected, Val had been bumped off the leader board so we both tried our luck to qualify, but the competition was too tough and neither of us qualified.  We didn’t bother to stick around for the finals and returned to our room to relax for a bit.

There was a presentation on our next two ports in the showroom so just before 3:00 we headed off to that.  It turned out that the port guide was sick so the cruise director gave an abbreviated talk for tomorrow’s port only.  We had arranged to meet the couple we had met in Aruba at 4:00 today so that was next on our agenda.

We had met Tony and Evelyn in Aruba when Tony and I noticed we were both using Nikon cameras.  We had been looking for someone to join us on the photo tour Val had booked in Manaus, Brazil and they were interested so we were meeting today to discuss the details.  Tony and Evelyn are both very nice and we enjoyed talking to them.  Tony was born in St. Vincent so our port stop there was a homecoming for him and he and Evelyn had been met by some of his relatives who had wined and dined them while we were there.  Tony had left St. Vincent to attend school in Montreal where he met Evelyn and ended up marrying her and not returning to St. Vincent.  We spent almost an hour talking to them and they decided they would like to join us for the tour.  We were glad not only to have another couple for the tour, but a couple we really liked.

By the time we finished, it was late afternoon, so we returned to our room, relaxed a bit and then got ready for dinner.  We did well tonight at trivia, but not well enough to win; we have not been a winner yet on the cruise.  After dinner it was another quick night in the casino and we decided to call it a night.

Tomorrow we are visiting Devil’s Island, but won’t arrive until noon so we don’t have to get up early.
