Tales of the South Pacific - Fakarava, Tuamotu

Cruise Day 43

Monday, November 10, 2025

Today we are visiting the atoll of Fakarava, the last of eight port days in a row and the second to last port of the cruise.  Fakarava is the second largest atoll in the Tuamotu group of islands second only to Rangiroa where we were yesterday.  The atoll has more of a rectangular shape with a width of 13 miles and a length 37 miles.  The population is just a little more than 800, that's less than the number of passengers on our ship.

You can see that the atoll of Fakarava is more rectangular shaped, and if the map is correct, more than one quarter of the surrounding reef is underwater.

Val and I decided not to get off the ship today as it was rather hot and humid and we didn’t really feel like another tender ride.  There is not really much to say about today as we spent most of it relaxing.  We had our usual lunch in the Lido followed by a casino visit.  We did go to trivia and our usual dinner, but as you can see, we are running out of steam as the cruise nears its end.  Tomorrow is a sea day which is welcome, but since we spent today as a sea day, it will actually be our second in a row.

Kyle, our Neptune Lounge concierge was all excited today because she got to go ashore.  She sent us this picture of her wading among the sharks.

Looking across the lagoon you can barely make out the other side.
