Cruise Day 15
Saturday, August 5, 2023
After getting up early yesterday and losing an hour of sleep last night due to another time zone change, we slept in late and relaxed this morning. We did go to a morning lecture on the history of the Shetland Islands where we’ll be visiting next. It was an interesting lecture, but again, nothing about the port itself.
After the lecture, I caught up on the blog and then we went to lunch in the Lido. From lunch we went directly back to the World Stage to see a lecture on the North Atlantic Sea birds. I am not much of a bird watcher, but after our visit to Vigur Island to see the Puffins, Eider Ducks and Arctic Terns, we were interested in finding out more about them. It was an interesting lecture, and we learned a lot.
From the lecture, we went straight to the Rolling Stone Lounge where they were having an informational talk and questions on the town of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands where we’ll be tomorrow. Port talks are what we have really missed on this trip, and we enjoyed this one and got some good information on Lerwick. I don’t know whether they have been doing these the whole cruise and we missed them because they weren’t in the main theater or they just started them, but we will be keeping our eye out for them in the future.
After that, it was back to the room where Val and I caught up on some e-mails and I finished bringing the blog up to date. It was dinner as usual and Val had another good night in the casino.
Tomorrow we’ll be in Lerwick in the Shetland Islands that are part of Scotland. Several days ago, we received a notice that British Immigration was requiring a face-to-face passport check that everyone on the ship had to do. That would start at 7:00 AM so that meant we would have to get up early tomorrow which meant an early bedtime for us. Unfortunately for us, Val’s success in the casino meant we didn’t get back early as she sat for a long time at one slot machine and got bonus after bonus. She would be ready to cash out then hit another bonus and continue to play. We will pay the price for this success when the alarm goes off tomorrow morning.
