Today we
are in Castries on the Caribbean Island of Santa Lucia. Santa Lucia is an independent country located in the Eastern Caribbean. It gained its full independence from Great Britain in 1979, but is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The island covers 238 square miles and the population is just under 180,000. The capital is Castries where we are docked today.
We
originally had planned a tour for today, but we had gotten tired of bus rides
and canceled it on Wednesday, and it turned out to be a wise decision
considering Val’s cold. She woke up
feeling much better today, but was tired as she didn’t sleep well last night.
We spent
most of the morning relaxing and taking it easy, but Val decided she wanted to
get off the ship so off we went. We were
docked right in town, and there was a little commercial
area where there were shops and restaurants.
The main part of town was a little further away and would be a long walk
or a taxi ride so we just walked around the area near the ship. We browsed through the shops and Val made a
few purchases. The weather was in the
mid- eighties, but the humidity was in the low sixties which was a huge
improvement from what we were experiencing in Brazil.
Val ran out
of gas pretty quickly so after about an hour we returned to the ship. After Val rested for a bit, we headed up to
the Lido for lunch and then it was back to our room. I spent the afternoon out on the balcony
reading and listening to music while Val took a nap. Later she decided she wanted to go to
afternoon trivia and was off to that. I
decided that would be a good time to update the blog which got done pretty
quickly as there is not a lot to talk about. I also spent some time taking some pictures of the area around the ship.
I also went up on deck for sail away to take some pictures of us leaving.
We resumed our normal dinner routine tonight including the casino. The food continues to be very good in the dining room. We didn’t spend much time in the casino tonight as even though Val is feeling better, she is still not back to normal. Tomorrow we will be the island of Sint Maarten, our last port before the end of the cruise.
