Day 44
Today is
the first of three sea days in a row and everyone we have talked to is really
looking forward to them. It’s not just
that we have had six straight port days, but the effect of the constant heat
and humidity just wears you down.
We slept in
very late this morning, not really sleeping but just relaxing in bed knowing we
didn’t have anywhere to go or anything to do.
It was a bit sad though, as we looked at the calendar and realized that a
week from today we will be in Florida and flying home, how fast the time goes
by.
We crossed
the Equator again today, left the Amazon and returned to the Atlantic, made
a left hand turn and headed north toward the Caribbean. The water remained brown for quite a while as
the silt from the Amazon is noticeable far into the Atlantic.
After
wasting the morning away relaxing, we both were getting hungry and went to the
Lido for lunch. After lunch, Val went
off to her trivia and I decided to catch up on the blog as I have fallen a
couple of days behind. The blog took
most of the afternoon and we spent the rest of the time reading and
relaxing. The nice thing is, we both
feel good today, we survived the Amazon.
We did our
usual routine of trivia, dinner and the casino and called it a day. Tomorrow is another sea day.

Day 45
Another day
at sea and another day of having nothing to do.
I spent much of the day sorting through our photos and eliminating the
bad ones before organizing them by the day they were shot. I had fallen behind on this task and want to take
this time at sea to catch up. This may
seem like a tedious task, but I do like reviewing what we have done and
everything I can do during our sea days are things I don’t have to do when we
get home before publishing the blog.
We did do
one thing this afternoon, we had an excursion booked for our next Caribbean
port, but we have had enough bus rides and decided to cancel it. They didn’t seem surprised when we cancelled
it as I guess a lot of our fellow travelers are also toured out.
Val spent
the day relaxing and reading and of course, going to her trivia
competition. Tonight is our sixth formal
night of the cruise and we have grown tired of them, but got ready and went to
dinner anyway. After dinner and trivia
we ended the night in the casino. Val’s
luck ran out tonight and she didn’t win anything and I continued my
winning ways. Tonight we set the clocks
back for the final time and got an extra hour of sleep. Tomorrow is another sea day.

Day 46
Today was
our third and final sea day in a row before arriving at our second to last port
of the cruise tomorrow. We were up
relatively early for us this morning, but Val had some bad news, she has a sore
throat so it looks like the cold has been passed back to her.
This is
getting to be a bad habit with us on our last couple of cruises and despite
vowing to do a better job of washing our hands and trying to stay healthy, we
are still coming home with one of us sick.
Hopefully I don’t see a return of my cold before the end of the
cruise. There seemed to be a lot of people
with colds which I guess is just inevitable with this many people in close
proximity.
It was a
beautiful day without a cloud in the sky so for a change we spent much of the
morning on the balcony. The humidity
was much lower than it has been in Brazil and the temperature was very
mild. I did spend some more time working
on the photos and beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Val didn’t
feel like going to lunch, so I went up to the Lido and got lunch for both of us
and brought it back to our room. After
lunch, Val rested and watched a movie while I wrote the blog and continued with
my photo work. I finally got caught up
on everything and spent the rest of the afternoon reading.
Val wasn't up to doing our usual routine tonight so we went to the Lido and had an early
dinner. After dinner, Val returned to
our room and I headed off to the Ocean Bar to let our trivia team know that we
wouldn’t be joining them tonight. Val
went to bed early and I joined her after reading for a while. Tomorrow we will be on the Caribbean Island
of Saint Lucia.
