Yellowstone and Geezer VII - Jackpot to West Yellowstone, MT

September 27

This morning we woke up to dark skies and falling rain.  We skipped breakfast and were on the road around nine, but as soon as we crossed the border we lost an hour so we ended up getting a late start.  There was very little traffic and except for the rain, it was an easy drive to West Yellowstone.  We arrived in West Yellowstone which is the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park around four and found the town bustling with people.  I was a little surprised this late in the season, but I guess Yellowstone is always popular.  The weather report is a little disappointing as cold weather and rain and snow are predicted for every day we are there, but we’ll just have to make the best of it.  We knew we were taking our chances this late in the season so we’ll see what happens.  The plan for tomorrow is to drive through the park to the Eastern entrance and the town of Silver Gate where we will stay for one night before coming back into the park and staying at the Old Faithful Inn for three nights.

Our drive through Idaho.
We ate dinner in a chuck wagon.  The decor was a little cheesy, but the stew we had was excellent.
