Grand Africa Cruise - Luderitz, Namibia (NOT)

Cruise Day 48

“Once the traveling bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life“  -- Michael Palin

Today we were supposed to be in Luderitz, Namibia, but as I mentioned yesterday, the port stop was cancelled due to high winds making tendering unsafe.  It was disappointing to us because we were schedule to do a tour that would take us by boat to an island that was home to African Pelicans like we saw in Cape Town.  The tour had filled up quickly, so we were put on a waitlist and when we returned from our safari, we were notified that we had made it on the tour, but now it doesn’t matter.  At least we got to see the penguins in South Africa.

The wind was blowing and the sea was getting rougher.

Since this turns out to be another sea day, we slept in again and after breakfast in the Neptune Lounge, I began working on the blog in earnest.  I finished day one of our safari in the morning and it was long and tedious, but enjoyable taking my notes and making them into a blog post and reliving that wonderful first day.

The captain made his noon update and said the winds would continue to blow and the seas would continue to be rough.  The swells were up to twelve feet, but because of the ship’s stabilizers, we didn’t feel much rocking and rolling.

Today we had reservations for lunch at the Pinnacle Grill, a specialty restaurant on the ship.  Our lunch was very good, but there was too much food and we were stuffed afterwards, but very satisfied.  After lunch we made a brief visit to the casino and then for me it was back to working on the blog.  Val stayed out and walked about the ship for a while.

It took most of the afternoon, but I got day 2 of our safari completed so I am making progress.  Tomorrow is a port day, so I probably won’t get much done as we will be getting off the ship for a tour.

After our big lunch in the Pinnacle Grill, we weren’t very hungry for dinner, but we decided to go anyway and just have an appetizer and dessert.  We finished the evening in the casino as usual and then returned to our room to relax a bit until it was time for bed.  We have a tour tomorrow, but it isn’t until two in the afternoon so there will be no rush to get up and around.
