Cruise Day 61

"To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is to be taken for granted.” -- Bill Bryson
I went to bed last night with an upset stomach, so I decided to take it easy and rest up today (a day at sea is the perfect remedy). Since we had gained another hour back last night, we were too wide awake to sleep in, so we were up at 8:00 and after our morning getting ready routine, we had our usual breakfast in the Neptune Lounge.
As one of the perks on this cruise, we were able to ship our luggage to the ship from our homes and then back to our homes after the cruise free of charge. The company Holland America used is Luggage Forward, and we have used them in the past and have had a very good experience with them. Today and for the rest of the cruise, a representative from the company will be on board to handle any difficulties or changes we may have. He will be available to the whole ship floor by floor and today he is available to us in the Neptune Lounge.
They delivered the shipping labels and documents to our cabins and since we had used them before and were familiar with the process, we didn’t have any questions and thought we didn’t need to meet with him. After thinking about it and with all the stuff we've acquired on this cruise, we thought we might want to add another bag to be shipped home. We had brought an empty duffel bag just in case, so we met with him and added that to our bags to be shipped. He was very nice and when we mentioned that he got to work while on a cruise he said it was nice as he doesn’t work on port days and gets to explore like we do.
After that we spent the rest of the morning relaxing until lunchtime. My stomach was still bothering me, so I had a light lunch. After lunch I took a short nap as I hadn’t slept very well last night but thought I should accomplish something today, so I got up and updated the blog.
On cruises over thirty days, you need to have a muster drill every thirty days by law and today it was time for our third (embarkation day, 31 days and 61 days). The purpose of the muster drill is to remind everyone of the safety and emergency procedures and to report to your lifeboat station to familiarize everyone to where it is located. Nowadays it doesn’t take much time as all you do is report to your muster station (lifeboat) and have your key card scanned and then you are done. You also need to watch a safety video on the TV, but that doesn’t take much time either.
Our next two ports will be in Cape Verde, and we have tours planned at both ports. Because I wasn’t feeling well, we decided to cancel the one on Sunday just in case I still wasn’t feeling well. There was a waitlist for the tour so we wouldn’t lose any money on it. Tomorrow we have booked a ship excursion and it is too late to cancel that one so we’ll wait to see how I feel in the morning and go from there.
After getting that all straightened out it was time to get ready for dinner. My appetite had returned and I ate a full dinner tonight and felt a little better. I also had some luck in the casino tonight after a long losing streak. We went to bed early as I was very tired after not sleeping well last night.
