Trains and Grizzly Bears, A Canadian Roadtrip - Campbell River Day 1

Saturday, September 14

Laundry day!  When Val booked the house we are staying in, she saw there was a washer and dryer which fit in perfectly with our schedule.  We knew that at this point on our trip we would be running out of clean clothes and indeed we were, so it is really nice to not have to find a laundromat.  It is much nicer to relax here in our little house while we do our washing.

The view from the deck of our little home away from home, the spa is to the left on the deck and you can see what a great view you have when you are in it.
Our front yard is the Straits of Georgia separating Vancouver Island from the mainland.
Looking up at our house from the coastline.
Val woke up feeling a little better as her sore throat was going away, but we both knew there would be other stages to follow.  After getting cleaned up and having some breakfast, we started on the laundry.

We just had snacks for lunch and after lunch, Val worked on the laundry and rested while I finished catching up on the blog.  Tomorrow we have booked a tour that takes us back across to the mainland of British Columbia where we will be met by some First Nation people who will take us to some viewing platforms where we can watch the grizzly bears feeding on the spawning salmon as they make their way upriver to their spawning grounds.  More on this tomorrow.

We decided to check out where we would catch the boat and park our car tomorrow so we headed to Discovery Bay on the north end of Campbell River where the tour started.  It was easy to find, but we were glad to find out what the parking situation was and where we check-in.  On our way back, we stopped at a pharmacy to pick up some seasick medicine just in case our boat ride is too rough.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but the rainy and overcast weather continued today and is expected tomorrow as well, although there is less of a chance of rain.  It really didn’t rain much today, only occasional drizzles, but I would rather see a little sun tomorrow, but we’ll take whatever comes along.  The bears don’t care so I guess we won't either.

When we returned to the house, it was back to laundry and Val started the chili for dinner.  Val’s chili was excellent, not only for the taste, but it fit perfectly with overcast drizzly weather outside.  After dinner we got our cameras and essentials organized for our trip tomorrow and then spent the rest of the evening relaxing, reading and watching a little TV.  Val went to bed early and we both hope she feels better in the morning as we are both really looking forward to our tour tomorrow.
