This is our last day in Santa Fe and we plan is to take it easy and get ready to hit the road again tomorrow. We slept in, but not too long as we did have a few things we wanted to do.
After getting ready and having some breakfast, Val and I discussed and planned our route south tomorrow to Ruidoso. Our route will take us on three more of the scenic drives on our list. It’s not too far in miles, but it will all be on secondary roads so we' have about five hours of driving ahead of us.
In going over our route, we also noticed that somehow, we had made no plans for a week from this Sunday (November 3rd). I don’t know how I missed it, but we decided to just extend our stay one extra day in Silver City, NM. I modified our hotel stay and we were all set.
After that we decided to walk back over to the plaza and take one last look at the shops. Val had been looking for a necklace made of Navajo pearls, but so far it had been hard to find an authentic one. Navajo Pearls are actually hand made out of silver. They are very labor intensive, so they are much nicer than the machine-made ones that we have mostly seen here. Val finally found Ortega's on the Plaza, a jewelry store that had a nice selection of authentic ones made by the Haley Navajo family. She found one she liked, bought it and was very happy with her find.

We wandered around a bit more and were very tempted to eat at one of the many restaurants in the area, but we are going to a nice restaurant for dinner tonight and wanted to have a full appetite, so we returned to our apartment and had a light snack for lunch.
After lunch we had a little business from home that had to be taken care of that took about an hour, and then it was time to start getting our things together so we could get an early start tomorrow. We did one last load of laundry and then packed everything we wouldn’t need for the rest of the day and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing.
Tonight, we are going to the El Plazuela Restaurant in the iconic La Fonda on the Plaza Hotel. Our reservations were for 6:15 so we left our apartment around 6:00 and strolled over there. We arrived a little early, but after a few minutes’ wait, a table was ready. It is a very nice and historic restaurant and was very Southwest in style. We had an excellent tomato and cheese burrata for an appetizer and for our main course, Val had prime rib, and I had scallops. Both were excellent and we both enjoyed our meal. We skipped dessert as we had some ice cream we had to finish back at our apartment, but the dessert menu was tempting.
It was a nice evening as we walked through the Plaza to the La Fonda Hotel. |

Val and I toast our wonderful dinner and stay in Santa Fe. Val is wearing the shawl she bought and her Navago Pearls. |
We walked
back through the plaza to our apartment and then relaxed for the rest of the
evening. Our stay in Santa Fe has been wonderful. Santa Fe has a population of 90,000, but it still has the feel of a small town (at least to us tourist). Staying at the Lincoln was a wonderful experience and if you want to treat yourself, I highly recommend it. I can't wait for our next visit to Santa Fe.
Tomorrow we hit the road again and head south to the town of Ruidoso.
