Cruise Day 25
Wednesday, July 3, 2024
Val and I were up just after eight as we were scheduled to enter the scenic Tracy Arm area just after nine. We got our breakfast and then settled in for what lay ahead. Kurt, the lecturer we had on board, started his commentary, but when he took a break, the captain came on and said he was sorry, but cruising Tracy Arm was cancelled because of low visibility and unusually large ice in the area. Evidently two other ships had started in, but they had already aborted, and all three ships had been communicating and deemed it not safe. It was disappointing as we have never seen Tracy Arm before, but understandable as safety always has to come first.
The red marker is Tracy Arm and the blue marker is Juneau. The area around the entrance to Tracy Arm.
So now we have an ordinary sea day although the area we are cruising in is pretty scenic in itself. The room stewards came and wanted to clean the room, so Val and I decided to go down to the casino since it has been several days since we have visited the casino, and we have money burning holes in our pockets.
We won a little then lost a little and finally gave up and returned to our room. I had fallen a couple of days behind on the blog, so I started catching up on that while Val caught up on her e-mail and a couple of things on her sister’s estate. Soon it was time for lunch, so we made our way to the Lido where we both had make your own tacos / nachos.
After lunch I finished bringing the blog up to date and then picked out some of the pictures we took yesterday for editing. Several people on our tour yesterday asked if I would share some of the whale pictures I had taken, so that’s what I want to get edited.
Tonight is our last formal night of the trip. Neither of us particularly like getting dressed, but it is nice to do occasionally so we will again tonight. Dinner was good and the casino was even better for me. Every night I sit down at a dollar slot machine and put $20 in. It is five dollars a spin so the means I get only four tries and so far on the cruise, I have always lost, but tonight on my very first spin, I won over $400. It was a nice win, but I’m not really sure if I came out ahead considering how much I have lost on it. Anyway, a good win is always nice. Val on the other hand, who usually does much better than I do, is having her worst gambling time on a ship she has ever had. Oh well, after her huge wins on the Voyage of the Vikings cruise, her luck was bound to change.
After the casino, it was back to our room where we relaxed until bedtime. Tomorrow will be another scenic cruise day this time in Misty Fjords National Monument.
