Grand Africa Cruise - Sea Days

Cruise Day 13  At Sea

“Travel is still the most intense mode of learning.”  -- Kevin Kelly

We woke up refreshed and feeling well after getting a good’s night sleep.  After a quick breakfast in the Neptune Lounge, we went out on the balcony to watch our passage through the Straits of Gibraltar.  The Straits of Gibraltar are only eight miles wide and you can easily see both Gibraltar and Spain from one side of the ship and Morocco from the other.  Because it is so narrow and a busy shipping lane, we saw many ships as we sailed eastward.

We visited Gibraltar back in 2017 and although we really enjoyed our visit, I wasn’t really impressed by the Rock of Gibraltar itself, I guess I was expecting something much more dramatic.  This time as we sailed by from the West and, since we weren’t stopping there, much further away the “Rock” was much more impressive; it looked much more like I had imagined it would.

That was our excitement for the day.  Except for lunch, Val spent most of her time out on the balcony reading and catching up on her e-mail, and I spent most of the day on my computer.  I had quite a bit of e-mail to catch up on, some online bill paying and banking to do, and downloading and backing up our Marrakech photos.  I also spent some time catching up on the blog.

Dinner tonight was what they called “dressy” and we wondered how that differed from a formal night.  Most nights are called “casual” which are defined as business casual and the periodic “formal” night means suit and ties or even tuxedos for men and formal evening wear for women.  After asking around, I decided to wear slacks and jacket with no tie and Val wore nice evening wear.  At dinner it appeared everyone was as confused as we were as we saw everything from formal wear to very casual wear.  No big deal anyway, and we did have a great dinner.  After our usual visit to the casino, it was back to the cabin to relax a bit and call it a night.  We have another sea day tomorrow.

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.”  -- Susan Sontag

After our usual breakfast, everything was about the same today as yesterday.  Val read and relaxed on the balcony and did some posting on Facebook, and I, except for lunch and a few breaks, spent almost the entire day writing up the Marrakech blog.  If you’ve been reading along you know it is quite lengthy and it took a while to write.  It didn’t really take all day, but it sure seemed like it.

It was dinner and the casino as usual and then we called it an early night as we will be in Tunisia tomorrow and have an early tour planned for tomorrow.
