Trains and Grizzly Bears, A Canadian Roadtrip - Campbell River Day 3

Monday, September 16

When we got up this morning, the skies were still gray and it had been raining. We decided we would spend the day at the house and go through our pictures.  That will take some time as we have almost 2,000 of them from yesterday.  We also had a couple of last loads of laundry to do as we have a little over two weeks until we get home so we need all the clean clothes we can get.

After doing our morning cleanup and breakfast, we started looking through our grizzly bear pictures.  You saw some of the pictures in yesterday's blog post, but those won’t actually be selected until we get home so we are anxious to see what we got.  Before lunch we went through Val’s pictures and she got some great shots.  Early in the day yesterday, we both had a little trouble with the right camera settings for the situation, but we soon got it right and were very happy with the results.  We picked out some pictures for Val to post on her Facebook page and then stopped to have lunch.

Lunch today was eating all the leftover food we had laying around since we will be moving on tomorrow.  After eating, it was back to our pictures and now it was my turn to see what I had gotten.  Like Val, I started out with some problems, but after the initial mistakes, I also had a lot of great pictures.  We are both very excited about the pictures we got.

We finished up with all of our photography stuff and started getting our things ready to leave tomorrow.  We had to unpacked everything, reorganize and repack everything for this road-trip portion of our trip so we had to start getting it all back together again.  The sun came out briefly this afternoon, which was promising, but it clouded up again by late afternoon.  Despite the cloudy rainy weather over the last week, it hasn’t really affected us much and since we travel a lot, we are used to having to adjust to whatever comes our way.  I actually think that the overcast weather yesterday helped us get better pictures of the bears.

The view from our house when the sun is out, it was short lived though.

This is our last night in Campbell River so we decided to go out to eat and have fish and chips.  Garry, our boat captain yesterday, had recommended a restaurant called the Dockside for fish and chips, but when we arrived, they were closed so we ended up at a place called Dick’s Fish and Chips.  We timed our arrival well because when we first walked in it was almost empty, but by the time we had ordered, there was a line.  Dinner was good and we enjoyed a nice view of the harbor while we ate.

We returned to our house and spent some time getting our things together as tomorrow we head on up the east coast of Vancouver Island.  The rest of the evening was spent relaxing and reading before we called it a night.  It had been a very quiet day, and Val was feeling much better so I think the rest did her a lot of good.
